In this project, the class worked on designing a mass timber 3pk, PreK school. At the end of the project, everyone created a construction document set highlighting floor plans, elevations, wall sections, and details for the school's design. It was also a look into how each student wanted to re-imagine education and pedagogy.
In this particular design, there are three topics of focus.
Attention to sunlight
Bring in as much sunlight to each space as possible, showing how light is very important for human beings in general and naturally helps our ability to focus.
Connection to the outside world
biophilic ideas, human beings call to nature
Children are so used to being inside that studies have shown our immune system has grown weaker as the generations go by, I want to bring an idea that there are different ways to invite kids to have fun outside doing different activities
Agricultural Learning
Added programs including a greenhouse in order to help students from a young age be able to grow plants, instilling a higher interest in taking care of our environment and organic growing.
